Seattle Weather Today: Rain, Wind, and Possible Snow

Seattle is experiencing periodic showers today, with rainfall potentially reaching half an inch by midnight. Gusty winds, particularly in areas north of Seattle, are expected to diminish later this afternoon. This wet weather is due to a storm system moving into Vancouver Island and bringing a cold front into Western Washington.

Snow is expected above 3,500 feet, with a winter weather advisory in effect for the Cascade Mountains through Thursday at noon. Up to eight inches of snow accumulation is possible, potentially making mountain roads slippery.

Thursday’s weather will be a mix of possibilities, including showers, strong winds potentially exceeding 30 mph, thunderstorms, and even the chance of sleet or snowflakes mixing with rain in the lowlands. Showers will decrease overnight, potentially offering a glimpse of the total lunar eclipse around midnight if clouds break.

Friday morning may offer a brief respite from the rain for some areas, but showers will return to Seattle by Friday evening. The weekend forecast predicts even wetter and windier conditions, with winds possibly reaching 40-50 mph and heavy showers. Mountain snow accumulation could reach several feet above 2,500 feet.

This pattern of intermittent storms and brief breaks is expected to persist through the end of next week and possibly longer.
