Mets Clinch NLDS Spot with Alonso’s Epic 9th-Inning Homer

The New York Mets staved off elimination in a dramatic Game 3 of the NL Wild Card series against the Milwaukee Brewers. Trailing 2-0 entering the ninth, Pete Alonso blasted a three-run homer to secure a 4-2 victory and send the Mets to the NLDS against the Philadelphia Phillies. The win marks the Mets’ first playoff series win since 2015.

Jose Quintana was brilliant for the Mets, pitching six scoreless innings, striking out five, and repeatedly working out of jams. However, Jose Butto gave up back-to-back home runs to Jake Bauers and Sal Frelick in the seventh, putting the Brewers up 2-0.

Brewers starter Tobias Myers was equally effective, holding the Mets scoreless through five innings while striking out five and allowing only two hits to Francisco Lindor.

Despite the strong pitching performances, the game hinged on Alonso’s ninth-inning heroics. His go-ahead home run not only won the game but potentially saved the Mets’ season.

The Mets offense struggled for most of the game, managing few hits and leaving runners on base until Alonso’s game-winning blast.

Before the game, both teams announced their starting lineups. The crucial matchup started at 7:08 PM EST and was broadcast nationally on ESPN, with streaming available on ESPN+.
