This essential work will impact some train services, leading to cancellations and alterations in schedules. So, Are Trains Running Today In Chennai? Yes, but with modifications. This article provides details on the affected routes and alternative travel options.

The Southern Railway has announced specific changes to accommodate the Tambaram yard upgrades. These changes include nighttime cancellations and daytime service adjustments.

Chennai Suburban Train Cancellations and Changes

From July 23rd to August 2nd, night train services between 10:30 PM and 2:30 AM will be cancelled. However, eight special trains will operate between Chennai Beach and Pallavaram during these nighttime hours. One special train will also run between Chengalpattu and Guduvanchery and back.

Furthermore, 55 suburban train services will be cancelled between 9:20 AM and 1:00 PM, and after 10:20 PM, from July 27th to 28th and August 3rd to 14th. These cancellations predominantly affect services between Chennai Beach and Tambaram (31 trains), Chennai Beach and Chengalpattu (11 trains), and services to Guduvanchery, Thirumalpur, and Kancheepuram.

Alternative Transportation Options in Chennai

To mitigate the impact of these cancellations, the Chennai division is implementing several alternative measures:

  • Shuttle Services: Thirty special shuttle trains will operate between Chennai Beach and Pallavaram during the affected hours. Additionally, 14 special shuttles will run between Guduvanchery and Chengalpattu.

  • MTC Bus Services: The Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) will provide special bus services from Pallavaram to Guduvanchery to ensure last-mile connectivity for commuters. This collaboration aims to minimize inconvenience caused by the train cancellations.

  • Additional Ticketing Counters: Chengalpattu and Guduvanchery railway stations will have additional ticketing counters to expedite the ticket purchasing process for passengers. This will help manage increased passenger flow during peak hours.
